   Concentration Statement

The central idea for my concentration is a design centered, symbolic commentary on women breaking through the glass ceiling and traditional doubts and worries, each piece uses bold lines, shapes and colors; and each piece deals with feminist ideals.

In my concentration I stay true to red and blue tones. The red tones are, neurologically, what peoples eyes are naturally drawn to first. I chose red because it also represents power and the glass ceiling is very powerful socially and in the workplace. The blue in the pieces can represent fear and also traditional submission.

In quite a few of my pieces the colors in the foreground and background represent a struggle to be noticed first . The fight between colors represents the struggle women encounter with the glass ceiling but mostly in daily life.

The addition of bold squares, represent the power that women could have. Then, by combining their will powers together, women can overtake barriers and reach the squares, which represent power and freedom.

Towards the end the designs get more complex, with the women basically engulfing the red squares, showing that they have fully embraced who they are and are ready to break free from modern expectations and stereotypes.
